Original Exhibition Posters | Brighton: A collection of original exhibition posters from across the 20th and 21st centuries.

1 February - 6 March 2024

‘The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.’ - Pablo Picasso

And that’s exactly what artists like Picasso did; they shared, and continue to share, their art in exhibitions around the world. The posters created to promote these exhibitions outside are just as much artworks in their own right as the pieces inside.

From 1st February – 6th March, Hidden Brighton will be showcasing a collection of original exhibition posters from across the 20th and 21st centuries, dating from 1945 onwards.

Many of the leading 20th century artists enjoyed designing their own exhibition posters. Posters are ephemeral, intended for a limited use and often ripped down or pasted over once the exhibition closed. As a result, posters that have survived in such excellent condition are rare. Only some visitors recognised their importance and held onto them, allowing us – and you – to acquire these remarkable works that are becoming increasingly scarce.

These posters are also a unique window into artists’ identity: what galleries were showcasing their work? Why was the design of the poster thought to best represent the artist? What phase of their artistic journey were they in?

Posters reveal so much about both art and artist, are intentionally eye-catching, and unique mementos from history!

The gallery is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am – 5pm, and on Sunday from 11am – 4pm, so please come by to view our stunning show.
