Bristol-based Banksy needs no introduction. An international sensation, household name and global market leader, his incisive and provocative works rank amongst the most highly-coveted art ever produced. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. His works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges throughout the world.

Anonymous and fiercely protective of his identity, Banksy first emerged as a freehand graffiti artist in the early 90s. Working with stencils since 2000, he quickly developed a distinct anti-authoritarian visual iconography. Recurring targets of his commentary include war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed. Among his most familiar characters are rats, apes, members of the Royal Family, policemen and children.

Banksy displays his art on publicly visible surfaces such as walls and self-built physical prop pieces. Banksy no longer sells photographs or reproductions of his street graffiti, but his public "installations" are regularly resold, often even by removing the wall they were painted on.

In addition to his graffiti work, Banksy has also produced around seventy separate print editions since the early 2000s that stand as some of the world's most sought-after artworks.
