The correct placement of your framed artwork will ensure its future safety and stability, safeguarding both its visual splendor and value. Therefore, we recommend the following:
Hang the Artwork Away from SunlightIt is critical that the work be hung away from bright or direct sublight. UV glass, despite having a 99% UV barrier, will still let through a small amount of damaging UV rays. Even household lighting can emit varying degrees of these rays.Keep the Artwork Away From Heat SourcesHeat sources such as radiators or firepaces, where temperature fluctuation can be extreme, may damage your artwork over time.Avoid Hanging on External WallsThese walls tend to be colder, meaning moisture can condensate on the back of frames, heightening the risk of mold developing. Similarly, keep artwork away from areas of high humidity such as bathrooms or kitchens that are not well ventilated.Being a natural product, paper is affected by changes in the relative humidity of the environment in which it resides. Fluctuations in heat and humidity will cause paper to expand and contract, meaning it may develop a ripple or undulation over time. Rather than attempting to restrict this movement, we aim to mount pieces in a way that allow the natural expansion and contraction of the paper to keep rippling to a minimum, but maintaining a stable atmosphere is key to reducing this condition.
