Amy Hampshire
Senior ManagerAmy studied English Literature at the University of Birmingham, where she also pursued Art History modules at The Barber Institute of Fine Arts. Her dissertation explored Paris as the global epicentre of modern art, focusing on the city’s vibrant community of writers and artists, including Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, and Ernest Hemingway. She also enjoyed browsing the university's collection of Modernist magazines, including Blast, in the library's archives. This research fostered a deep understanding of 20th century European art, complemented by her studies of American literature and contemporary artists such as Georgia O'Keeffe.
Her interests lie in American and European Modernism, a passion that informs her appreciation of artists including Agnes Martin, Picasso, and Joan Miró. Among her favourite cultural institutions are the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden in St Ives.
Amy has been a member of the Hidden Gallery team since 2020. She curates the gallery’s regularly changing exhibitions and events, builds lasting relationships with clients and collectors, and offers tailored advice and recommendations. She also leads the gallery’s home approvals service, giving Bristol buyers the unique opportunity to experience artworks in their own spaces before making a decision.

Poppy Boys-Stones
Director of OperationsPoppy joined Hidden Gallery in 2018, shortly after completing a Masters in Fine Art at the University of the West of England. This followed her undergraduate studies in English Literature at the University of Bristol, where she developed a strong foundation in critical analysis and cultural theory. Together, these academic experiences shaped her considered approach to contemporary art and continue to inform her work at Hidden today.
As Director of Operations, Poppy is responsible for the smooth and effective running of the gallery. She works closely with the team to ensure that Hidden remains a welcoming space for both established collectors and those new to buying art. Central to her role is maintaining the gallery’s ethos of sincerity and openness, qualities which underpin the long-lasting relationships Hidden builds with its clients.
During her postgraduate studies, Poppy became particularly interested in the work of Sarah Lucas, whose use of everyday objects and sharp humour challenge traditional ideas around gender and the body. Her wider interests include Andy Warhol, whose exploration of consumer culture remains strikingly relevant, and Marina Abramović, whose pioneering performances probe the limits of endurance and human connection.
Poppy is also a keen collector herself, with a personal collection that reflects her belief that art collecting can be both accessible and meaningful. Among her treasured pieces are a series of original Keith Haring posters, a limited-edition Andy Warhol screenprint, a hand-signed poster from Abramović’s exhibition at Tate Modern, and a hand-signed woodcut by David Shrigley. For Poppy, these pieces embody the joy of living with art and demonstrate that collecting is not only about investment, but about passion and connection.

James Pilsworth
BuyerJames joined Hidden in 2022. He graduated with a degree in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking from The University of Gloucestershire in 2010. His studies gave him a thorough grounding in the technical aspects of etching and lithography, while allowing him to explore critical discourses of Modernism and Post-modernism.
A perfectionist with a granular knowledge of papers, pigments, artist biography and catalogues raisonnes, James brings his expert knowledge to his role as Hidden’s buyer, scouring the globe for exceptional works on paper and original prints that chart the dramatic course of Modern and Contemporary art over the past century. In keeping with Hidden’s ethos of openness and inclusivity, he is dedicated to expanding the exciting world of graphic editions to as many people as possible. To this end, he also writes Hidden’s weekly newsletter.
James is a passionate collector, with a particular weakness for Spanish Modernism. For him, these artworks are talismans of a vibrant history that seem to possess some of the magic of their creators. Each one represents a moment of connection and communion with a great artist.
Among James’s favourite museums are the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, Kunstmuseum Den Haag in The Hague, Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris and The Courtauld Gallery in London. -
