At Hidden Gallery, we believe that great art belongs not just in museums, but in remarkable homes. Combining these tips with your own personal style will get you well on your way to creating a space that you love!

Your hallway is the first thing that you and your visitors see upon entering your home, and should be both functional and welcoming. We advise using this space to establish the tone for the rest of your home. Whether you will be filling your rooms with energizing, bright colours or a grounding palette of earthy neutrals, carefully placed art can immediately elevate a hallway from a forgettable passing-through point to an attractive taster for the rest of the house. Subtle abstract or minimalist artworks can work particularly well as they provide interest and momentum without immediately overloading the eyes. Pasmore and Le Corbusier are fantastic artists to consider for their sophisticated and refined visual vocabulary.Top Tip: Select a single, medium-to-large piece with a similar colour palette, texture or theme to the rest of your home.

Now this is where the fun really starts! As a space for lingering over a coffee with a guest or relaxing with your family, living rooms are the perfect spots for large statement pieces which reward prolonged looking. Large-scale, eye-catching works with conversation-sparking subject matters often work best. Take Hockney for example - his world-famous depictions of pools have captured the imaginations of many for decades, beloved for both their striking aesthetic and historical context. If smaller pieces are more your style, a carefully curated collection of a few complementary pieces can also be used to create a gallery wall. The trick here is to seek works with a unifying feature – such as a colour, theme or texture.Top Tip: Select one large piece, or a collection of smaller works (or both if your wall space allows!) with enough visual interest to enjoy over prolonged periods.

The bedroom, your most intimate room, is the best place for the most personal artworks in your collection. Carefully hung artworks can soften harder lines, such as over beds and dressers, in order to create a sense of elegance.Artworks with a soothing palette and uncomplicated subject matter are well-suited for the bedroom. Blues and neutrals have also been proven to calm the mind, so works with these tones make great choices.Top Tip: Consider softer, pared-back pieces in calming neutral colours. We certainly recommend artists such as Moore, whose reclining figures feel appropriately serene.

As a sociable space for hosting lively gatherings, dining rooms should be curated with dynamic and energetic artworks. Joyful and instantly iconic pieces by household names, such as Matisse's 'Blue Nudes' and Mondrian's geometric compositions, are excellent choices as their star power is bound to impress your guests.Top Tip: To avoid overwhelming the space and distracting from the main event - good food and good company - consider saving your main statement pieces for your living room. There, they'll have more breathing room and will be an excellent accompaniment to any pre-dinner aperitifs.
