From the Collection: Florilège des Amours de Ronsard

In 1941, in his early seventies and largely confined to his bed, Matisse embarked on one of his most ambitious printmaking projects: Florilège des Amours de Ronsard, a series illustrating the sixteenth-century love poems of Pierre de Ronsard. The undertaking took seven years to complete, drawing on his favourite themes of fruit, flowers, portraiture and the female form, and stands as one of the most intimate expressions of his artistry in print.
