What could be more iconic than Peter Blake’s cover for The Beatles’ “Sgt Pepper”? If his nine decades of extraordinary achievement were to be summed up in a single artwork it would be this one. Everybody recognises it. The idea of British cool is defined by it. For collectors it doesn’t get much better.

Released in 2007 to celebrate the album’s 40th anniversary, it was co-published by PierreOptique and (more importantly) Apple Corps, an illustrious pedigree. The edition of 500 may seem large, but it soon starts to sound very rare indeed when you consider that the album itself has sold 32 million copies worldwide. That’s a ratio of 64,000:1!

To secure a published fine art edition of a cultural phenomenon that’s tied to an important anniversary and signed by the artist who created it is a fabulous prospect. The print regularly crops up at the major international auction houses. Needless to say, it is VERY desirable.
