This incredible portfolio was published in 1950, the passion project of art historian and critic Robert Rey. He wanted to assemble a set of works that included the greatest artists working in France, capturing a snapshot of this incredible moment in art history. Dufy was to pass away in 1953 and Matisse in 1954, so Estampes is a beautiful and timely tribute to what you could call the twilight of modernism.
The set is made up of wood engravings that reproduce the following paintings:

Maurice Brianchon, La Neige à auteuil
Marc Chagall, La Sirène
François Desnoyer, Liseuses au bord de mer
Raoul Dufy, Le Casino de la jetée à Nice
Marie Laurencin, Portrait de femme en rouge
Henri Matisse, Nature morte au magnolia
Pablo Picasso, La Casserole émaillée
Maurice Utrillo, Le Jardin de Montmagny
Kees van Dongen, Têtes de femme
Maurice de Vlaminck, Les Blés dans le perche
Henry de Waroquier, Dolori sacrum
Each is signed by the artist and countersigned by Robert Rey. There was an edition of 150 in Arabic numbers and a further 100 in Roman numerals reserved exclusively for the French market.
All but two of these artists (Brianchon and Waroquier) have works in the Tate collection. This is a serious, ready-made art collection. Best of all, it's an INCREDIBLE value proposition. You'll notice that we already had a copy of Picasso's print from this series available, and that we are selling it on its own for £17,500. Getting a further eleven signed prints from some of the biggest names in art for little more than twice the price is about as good as it gets. It's a huge bargain.
