A Miller Classic

Acquisition Alert!

In 2001, Harland Miller produced the first of his iconic series of Penguin Book covers and was immediately struck by their visceral nostalgia.  Consequently, Miller has spent the past two decades developing his satirical take on the books, marrying his love for words and art. Throughout his career so far, Miller has held over fifteen solo exhibitions and has been involved in around thirty group exhibitions in renowned institutions around the world, including White Cube, London, Royal Academy of Arts, Somerset House and Blain/Southern in Berlin.

These particular prints are an edition from Miller’s dust jacket series in which the artist treats books as three-dimensional objects with their own unknown but personal histories of being read, re-sold, discarded, cherished, forgotten, re-found and even rebound. While Miller conjures this patina in the ‘beaten-up’ depiction of the books, he also uses his own titles to ground them in the present. In this instance, it is the aspect of maximalist expression, withered by history, that the title Hate’s Outta Date both challenges and evokes.
