Salvador Dalí: Top 4 in Our Collection

Salvador Dalí: Top 4 in Our Collection

Current viewing_room
  • It’s cold. It’s bleak. It’s February. Needless to say, these are inauspicious circumstances.

Nevertheless, here at Hidden we have faith in art to unlock the hidden potential of any given day, and few artists understood this attitude as instinctively as Dalí:

“Every morning when I wake up, I experience an exquisite joy—the joy of being Salvador Dalí—and I ask myself in rapture: What wonderful things is this Salvador Dalí going to accomplish today?”

Today, we’d like to offer you the opportunity to experience the exquisite joy of hanging a signed, framed Dalí on your wall. We’ve put together four original prints at our best prices ever, and we’re confident you won’t find a better price on these anywhere else…

  • Dalí’s etchings for Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s text Venus in Furs draw vividly upon themes of female dominance and sadomasochism, providing a perfect outlet for the artist’s vicious sense of wit and powerful skills as a draughtsman.

  • The etchings for Venus in Furs also include elements of hand-colouring, giving them substantial wall appeal. Putting some of the bite back into Surrealism, they are among Dalí’s most wickedly humorous works.

  • The Aurelia etchings were inspired by a novella of the same name by the 19th century French author and poet Gerard de Nerval. An interesting character with a pet lobster and distaste for the material world, Nerval was a great source of inspiration for the Surrealists. 'Aurélia' was his final work. It's a harrowing account of his descent into madness, provoked in part by his infatuation with an actress named Jenny Colon. This proto-surrealist text could've been tailor-made for Dalí's imagery.

    Salvador Dali

    Visage Surrealiste, 1972
The 16th century painter Giuseppe Arcimboldo made his name with a series of portraits constructed from objects arranged to create a recognisable likeness in semi-human form. These works fell out of fashion following Arcimboldo’s death, but they were rediscovered by the Surrealists in the 20th century. Dalí loved them, and credited them with inspiring his legendary “double images”.
