Contemporary British Artists : A Dame, a Sir and Some Turner Prize Winners

Current viewing_room
  • Britain’s Contemporary art scene defies easy categorisation. It’s a meeting point for a vast array of voices, styles and ideas, colliding and combining in new and unexpected ways.

Luminaries such as Dame Tracey Emin, Sir Peter Blake, Damien Hirst, David Hockney, Grayson Perry are among the most influential British artists working today.

Although known for employing a wide range of artistic techniques (often revolutionary and controversial), these artists have also proven themselves to be printmakers of great skill and eloquence. Their work reflects the dynamic momentum of contemporary life, a globally interconnected community that is culturally diverse, technologically advanced, and dizzyingly multifaceted. They engage in a rich dialogue with the art that came before them, challenging and subverting established narratives and borrowing from an infinite array of styles and ideas.

Since bursting onto the scene as founder of the Young British Artists (YBAs) in the late 1980s, Damien Hirst has continued to exert profound influence on the art world. No one could ever say that Hirst is lazy, whether burning art to convert into NFT’s, supporting the NHS with rainbows or filling the world with cherry blossom, he could make a valid claim for the title of ‘Hardest Working Artist in the Art Business.’ His provocative works challenge perceptions of life, death, and beauty, and are recognised the world over. Hidden's collection of Damien Hirsts include iconic hand-signed etchings and screenprints from the Spin and Spot series, alongside a diamond dusted screenprint featuring the famously extravagant human skull, studded with over 8,000 diamonds.

Hirst isn’t the only YBA to feature in Hidden’s collection. Tracey Emin's searingly honest and confessional practice across a variety of media burns brightly in the contemporary art world and has elevated her to the status of a legend within her lifetime. In June this year, she was made a Dame in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the arts. While Emin is a staple in Hidden's collection, there is arguably no better time to celebrate her artworks than now.

Hidden has a fine selection of Emin’s hand-signed lithographs and etchings, and even a bronze sculpture of her beloved cat, Docket, in stock. Each artwork is characteristically provocative and deeply personal, essential qualities for collectors and admirers of the artist’s work.
