    'Hand-signed Artists’ Posters'

    26th July – 31st August 2025
A Big Bold Beautiful Show' will be on display at our gallery in Bristol between 23rd October – 6th November. Plan your visit now, and don't miss out on viewing this spectacular collection in person!

These dazzling posters were created by the greatest artists of the last century. Whether intended to advertise a major retrospective, promote political causes or contribute to culturally significant events such as the Olympics, the variety of posters on display captures each artist at their cultural zenith.

Original artists' posters exist at the intersection between fine art, graphic design and pop culture. They are an integral part of art history since the most important household names, from Hockney to Chagall, dedicated great effort and attention to their posters. For many, designing a poster was the catalyst to an unwavering passion for printmaking; they worked tirelessly with leading print workshops to create something striking, pushing the limits of design and technical expertise.

Each poster is an excellently preserved time capsule, and all together they provide a survey of over 70 years of exciting historical landmarks.

Whether you're looking to buy original art or expand your collection, this show offers a unique opportunity to come face to face with surviving artefacts from a compelling, pre-digital world that has largely disappeared.

  • Why collect original posters?

    1. They are increasingly rare artefacts

Finding original posters in good, let alone excellent condition, is an exponentially difficult task. They were designed to be ephemeral, intended to last the duration of whichever event they advertised. Only a few, far-sighted individuals thought to preserve them for future generations.
  • 2. They bring household names within touching distance 2. They bring household names within touching distance

    2. They bring household names within touching distance

Since posters are closely linked with the development of an artist’s career, they enable collectors to form an indelible connection with a maestro of Modern or Contemporary art. They’re far more than just publicity material, and posters with a hand-written signature are particularly extraordinary as their connection to a household name is all the more intimate.

Collectors should keep their eyes peeled for posters featuring a dedication or inscription by the artist. These posters will be even more rare, and this extra interaction from the artist will increase the work's desirability.

    3. Original posters offer exceptional value

Since posters were designed to be bold and eye-catching, they are often large and tend to feature one of the artist's most iconic artworks. As a consequence, your money goes far with a poster; collectors are able to access a highly sought-after image for a comparably small cost, whilst giving their walls an instant statement piece.
