Betty Parsons was called "the den mother of Abstract Expressionism" and was a champion of Pollock long before he achieved notoriety in the art world. Her gallery in midtown New York helped to launch the careers of several of the Abstract Expressionists. This rare screenprint was produced on the occasion of Pollock's 1951 exhibition, in which he unveiled the first of his "black paintings". After four years of working in a completely abstract manner, these new works began to readmit fragments of imagery, albeit in a highly rhythmic and distorted form. This piece is held by multiple museums, including MoMA in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C..
