This original lithograph comes from the beautifully created survey of one hundred and two post-war exhibition posters produced in 1959, by the Mourlot Studio. Included in this collection are lithographs by Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, Raoul Dufy, Fernand Leger, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, and Pablo Picasso.
In 1948 the publisher Tériade commissioned Chagall to produce a series of lithographs for his art review Verve. The result was a stunning group of sixteen images featuring scenes from the Bible, published in 1956. The poster depicted here was created to celebrate Chagall's achievement. He would extend the project further in 1960 with another twenty-four lithographs.
