Since the early 20th century, posters have been commissioned by Organising Committees of the Olympic Games to capture the excitement of these unique cultural events. Numerous major artists have contributed highly personal interpretations of the "Olympic moment". For the London Games in 2012, Hodgkin created 'Swimming', a deep, swirling mass of blue flooding across the paper. The fluidity of the brushstrokes perfectly captures the movement of water and the sensation of swimming. This print was created using twelve hand-pulled colour silkscreens. The artist went on to create two further images for the Olympics in 2014 and 2016.
