To mark this event, it commissioned several major international artists to create a series of original lithographic posters.
This original six-colour lithographic poster was Alexander Calder's contribution to the project. The imagery in Calder’s lithographs is often reminiscent of his sculptural work; while many might initially appear abstract, closer examination will reveal symbols of stars, plants or animals. This work is a stunning example of Calder's vivid pictorial language.
