Created in 1949, this lithograph was based on Braque’s painting Intérieur à la table noire and produced by Mourlot under the artist’s supervision. It formed part of Une Aventure Méthodique, an illustrated book pairing Braque’s works with a text by his friend, the French poet Pierre Reverdy.

Braque was a founding figure of Cubism, whose experiments with fragmented form and shifting viewpoints changed the course of modern art. In Une Aventure Méthodique, Reverdy examined his friend’s ideas and working methods, while the accompanying lithographs traced the development of Braque’s work.
