By this point in his career Miró was an international star. After years of incessant travel he had settled on the island of Mallorca in 1956 and had constructed the studio of his dreams, a space that allowed him to create some of his finest works. During the next twenty years he would go on to create some of the most important prints of the 20th century.
The 'Album 19' lithographs catch Miró at a particularly vibrant moment in his life, with his work at a transition point between the almost aggressive irony of his earlier years and the meditative approach that marks his late career.
