Georges Braque
Framed: 38 x 33 cm
Depicting the poster created for Braque's 1956 exhibition Sur 4 Murs ['On 4 Walls'] at the Galerie Maeght in Paris, it features the soaring birds that became the defining motif of his late work. Braque had begun to experiment with images of birds in 1949. A visit to a bird sanctuary in Camargue during the summer of 1955 intensified his interest in the subject.
