Original Salvador Dali Prints for Sale
“Each morning when I awake, I experience again a supreme pleasure – that of being Salvador Dalí.”
Salvador Dalí stands as the most recognisable figure of the Surrealist movement and one of the most unconventional creative minds of the 20th century. A true polymath, his work extended far beyond painting to include printmaking, sculpture, fashion, advertising and film. Across every medium, Dalí explored the subconscious, using bold, dreamlike imagery to visualise his inner world of dreams and hallucinations.
Dalí's major contribution to Surrealism came in the form of the ‘paranoiac-critical method,’ a way to “systematise confusion and thereby contribute to a total discrediting of the world of reality.” It entailed the cultivation of a deliberately disordered state of mind, allowing the viewer to forge connections between unrelated objects and thus open up new avenues of thought.
He was eager to explore novel effects through various print media. He famously experimented with the use of ink bullets and snail shells filled with printer’s ink, firing them at his lithographic stones with a 15th-century musket. He was also known to fill rhinoceros horns with ink-soaked French bread before using them to draw directly onto the printing plate. The majority of Dalí's prints are etchings, but he was also an avid producer of lithographs, engravings and woodcuts.
Dalí was a legend during his lifetime, and his work remains instantly recognisable today. Held in major museum collections around the world, his prints offer exceptional value for collectors and provide an ideal introduction to one of the most distinctive artistic careers in modern art history.
