A hand-signed proof without text for a poster produced in 1955 for an exhibition of Modern Master Paintings at the Galerie Beyeler in Basel.
The image chosen was "Tête de Femme", an oil on canvas from 1921 (Zervos #348). After the turmoil of the First World War the European avant-garde turned to the classical traditions of Greek and Roman art, embracing its serenity, elegance and poise. Picasso's figures acquired a new softness and seemed almost to be carved from stone.
The original painting was reproduced under the artist's supervision by Henri Deschamps, a master printer at the Atelier Mourlot in Paris and Picasso's favoured lithographic collaborator. This piece is one of the rare editions without the exhibition text, signed in red crayon.
