A rare poster featuring Lichtenstein's 1963 painting Cold Shoulder, published by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1987.
Lichtenstein’s early work is characterized by his tongue-in-cheek parodies of popular advertising and comic books. The initial inspiration for Cold Shoulder came from the DC Comics anthology Girls’ Romances, published between 1950 and 1971. The artist's precisely rendered compositions disguised the painstakingly handmade nature of his work.
This poster is an elegant example of the circular evolution of Lichtenstein's work, travelling from print media, to painting, and finally back to print again.
